Abstract

|
|
In this review, the neural substrates and circuits for the generation of nystagmus and saccadic oscillation are summarized. In details, the pathways for the vestibulo-ocular reflex, smooth pursuit, neural integrator, and saccadic eye movements are reviewed. The patterns of nystagmus are described according to the lesion locations from peripheral system to central lesion. Saccadic oscillations are classified into two groups according to the presence or absence of intersaccadic latency. Finally, the characteristics of each saccadic oscillation are illustrated.
